The Production Process

Up The Production Process The Commissioning Process Budgets

The Brief

The programme outline that has been agreed on in the initial commissioning discussions is now taken further. A detailed brief of what will be in the programme is now prepared to make sure that everyone – client and filmmakers - understands the project in the same way.

Preparing the shoot- Preproduction

In this stage of the process we will follow up contacts given to us by the charity to start building relationships with those who will facilitate the filming. We will also conduct the necessary research into the background of the situation we are portraying as well as it’s latest developments. The next step is to prepare the filming visits according to the schedule laid out.

The Shoot - Production

Our team will travel to the concerned community, film the appropriate activities and interview key participants. The length of the shoot is dependent on the length of the finished programme.

Postproduction

After the shoot, we will have a meeting with the client to report back on what happened during filming. This will allow everyone to verify or adjust the brief according to the material we have filmed.

We will then start the scriptwriting process – after the translation and transcription of possible interviews, one of our writers will write the first script draft. This will be forwarded to the client for approval and adjusted accordingly by our writer. We will pass the script back and forth in this manner until everyone is happy.

After the final script is written and approved, the producer of the video will get together with one of our editors to start putting together the material. The narration and possible voice-overs are recorded. The edit will consist of a draft edit (off-line edit) and a final polished cut (on-line edit). Again, the client will have a chance to comment and request changes before the final version is produced.

Duplication and Distribution

Just as important as the production process is the distribution of your video: you need to ensure that the film is seen by its intended audience otherwise your - and our- efforts will have been in vain.

We will now send the digital master tape of the film to be duplicated onto VHS copies. If video box inserts are required, we will get those designed and printed. The finished copies will then delivered to your doorstep so that you can start distributing them right away and get your message out there.
